BUSH HINTS: FLAT TAX COMING...

FLAT TAX COMING, BUSH HINTS...

From Drudge:
President Bush, who has pledged to reform the U.S. tax code in his second term, today praised the flat tax implemented by Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda of the Slovak Republic. During their meeting in Bratislava, Bush, without prompting, made a point of touting the flat tax:

“I complimented the Prime Minister on putting policies in place that have helped this economy grow. The most important responsibility we have at home is to make sure our people can find work. And the president put a flat tax in place; he simplified his tax code, which has helped to attract capital and create economic vitality and growth. I really congratulate you and your government for making wise decisions.”

I am really starting to believe that social security reform is a red-herring and that the true goal of Bush in 2005/06 is true reform of the tax code. Bush seems to be playing this one VERY close to the vest, but the hints are there...

Remember this from January 7th:
"Linder on Tuesday reintroduced legislation to create the national sales tax. President Bush has announced he will make tax reform one of his major second-term goals."

From my commentary in that post:
I KNOW THAT HASTERT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME PROPONENT OF REPLACING THE IRS AND INCOME TAX WITH A NATIONAL SALES TAX... BUT I HAD NO IDEA THAT THIS WAS EVEN ON THE AGENDA IN 2005! THIS IS GREAT NEWS FOR THOSE OF US WHO THINK THE INCOME TAX SYSTEM IS BLATENTLY UNFAIR AND SEPARATES AMERICANS INTO VARIOUS ECONOMICLY-INDUCED CLASSES.
